Layouts - Schwungischerplatz

Schwungischerplatz is an N gauge continental model railway layout. Although not entirely based on any particular location, a number of aspects of the layout have heavily drawn inspiration from places in Berlin, for example the stretch of line which runs above the River Spree at Jannowitzbrucke.

The layout was first started in 2013, but as with many model railway projects, has been expanding ever since with the addition of an extra baseboard carrying a station scene in 2014. The layout now stands at 12 foot long and 2 foot deep.

The track for the layout is all readily available Peco items, and it currently runs on conventional DC control with Gaugemaster control equipment. (DCC operation in the future has not been ruled out!)

Locos and rolling stock are all from the usual continental outline manufacturers (Fleischmann, Roco, Minitrix, Arnold etc.) and are slowly being detailed and weathered up.

The buildings and scenery are a mix of kits and ready made items from various sources, Kato, Faller and Pola to name a few.

As well as the high level railway above the arches, the city scene also features a working tramway (Strassenbahn) and a transport interchange at the station which is currently being extended to feature stopping points for all forms of inner city transport.

Recently, the layout has attended a number of exhibitions in the south of England and we happily have a few more to come, so if you're at any of the shows we mention here, please do look out for us.
